Before opinions come numbers. And numbers, when it comes to 5×1000<\/strong>, have the merit of being stubborn. They tell what millions of Italian taxpayers decide when they have the opportunity to allocate a share of their taxes to an association. A choice that passes simply by the signature placed on the tax return. <\/p>\n\n

Looking at the 2025 data<\/a>, the latest available, the picture that emerges is crystal clear. On one side are the organizations concerned with environmental<\/strong> protection, wildlife protection and landscape conservation<\/strong>; on the other, the hunting world<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Environmentalism data<\/h3>\n\n

The big acronyms of environmentalism confirm themselves as genuine catalysts of resources. WWF Italy<\/strong> collects 1,091,682 euros thanks to more than 31 thousand signatures. Greenpeace<\/strong> rises to 789,637 euros with almost 20 thousand preferences, the Italian League for the Protection of Birds(LIPU<\/strong>) to 526 thousand euros, collecting more than 13,600 signatures, and Legambiente nazionale<\/strong> exceeds 217 thousand euros thanks to 6 thousand signatures. The Anti-Vivisection League (LAV)<\/strong> flies past 2.24 million euros and more than 66 thousand signatures, while the Fund for the Italian Environment (FAI)<\/strong> magnets as much as 2,316,835 euros with 38,160 signatures. <\/p>\n\n

But the real surprise is not so much the “giants” of environmentalism. It is the ability of small, specialized entities to tap the generosity of taxpayers. Take Save the Moon Bears<\/a><\/strong>, an association founded in Bologna to oppose the detention and ordeal of Asiatic black bears on bile farms. A specific cause, far from the spotlight of the general public, which nevertheless manages to raise 24,713 euros thanks to 432 signatures. Similar discourse for Salviamo l’Orso<\/a>, active in protecting the Marsican bear to avert its extinction, which takes home 12,887 euros from 334 contributors. Modest figures compared to the giants in the field, but symptomatic: sensitivity to wildlife translates into concrete support even when the target niche is small. <\/p>\n\n

Hunting data<\/h3>\n\n

On the opposite front, the landscape becomes bleak. As soon as one moves on to hunting-related associations, the numbers shrink to the point of fading. TheArci Caccia Tuscan Regional Committee<\/strong> stops at 1,697 euros (59 signatures). TheCacciatori Trentini Association <\/strong>raises 1,682 euros from just 31 people.Catania’s Enalcaccia<\/strong> receives 1,620 euros. From there on, it is a parade of micro-amounts until it reaches 818 euros for Cacciatori delle Alpi and Cavallasca<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

In this scenario LAC (League for the Abolition of Hunting)<\/strong> alone raises 15,609 euros and 449 signatures, outperforming economically the organizations that would like to defend and represent hunting.<\/p>\n\n

Environment unites, hunting world disperses<\/h3>\n\n

Let’s be clear: the 5×1000 <\/strong>is not a referendum on hunting but a thermometer that measures public awareness, organizational capacity and trust<\/strong>. And that is precisely why the political and cultural figure is relevant. The hunting world, while numerically substantial and noisy in the public debate, struggles enormously to turn membership into economic support for its structures. <\/p>\n\n

The numbers suggest a profound dynamic: the defense of nature is a cross-cutting cause, capable of mobilizing and nurturing a collective sentiment<\/strong>. Hunting, by contrast, remains fragmented in a galaxy of territorial acronyms that disperse their forces. Where environmentalism concentrates and capitalizes, the world of doublespeak becomes parceled out and shut down.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Far from the noise of talk show controversy, the strength of a movement is measured by the willingness of people to support it, putting their face and a share of their taxes into it. And on this ground, the tax return response admits of no reply. <\/p>\n\n

Millions are donated to those who protect habitats and animals, while hunting associations gross less than a non-profit organization that defends a single species. Before opinions come numbers. And, at least this time, they clearly say that the country has chosen nature.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n
