The plan requires the states in the so-called “lower basin”—Arizona, California, and Nevada—to reduce their water withdrawals by about 20% over the next two years, with even steeper cuts on the horizon through 2036. The “upper basin” states—Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming—remain unaffected by the measure.
Starting today, July 30, and through the end of the year, we will consume more resources than the planet can regenerate in 12 months. In Italy, this limit was reached as early as May 3.
